Default what mother board

I have a mate that bought my very first pentium 4 comp off me many years ago and finaly realises he needs a better computer.
I will be useing an I5 prossesor due to budget restrictions of $1000 for a tower.
can one of you tech heads recomend a good mother board for me please? and mabey a good bang for your bucks grafics card

He isnt into gamming as such so i will be looking at low end grafic card for him.

I also may have the job to build Jen (wife) a new office computer with a simular budget but this system is used for data prosessing, payroll and accounts only so any recomendations will be greatly appreiciated.

I'm assuming that budget doesn't include screen or mouse/keyboard.

Office PC
It's Micro-ATX, comes with built in graphics and the case is fairly small. Two 1TB drives in RAID 1 should ensure that you don't lose any data.
Price is around $800. Which leaves a little room to buy a new shiny LCD screen.
This should be suitable AOC 23.6" screen.

This is a typical recommendation from most sites. Provides a bit of room to upgrade in future and he will think he's playing with a super computer after coming from a P4 system.

thanks for the link Grim but i want to build them so i can get a bit more practice at it. deano has helped me put a few together now so i am going to have a go at doing it from scratch.

yer jester the 2 conps dont need screens mouse keyboard etc mate.
the office pc for my missuses work has a server in the office that they back up onto every night, i dont know if that makes any differance to what you have sorced bro?

the second comp my mate will play face book type of games only or i should say his kids will, they are 4 and 6 so there is no need to be able to run batle feild 2 bc or cod4 type games but i would like to see him have a few years good run out of it. he has been happy with my old pentium 4 for the last 7 years or so, that tells you he aint into computers like us lot.

ive never has anything to do with amd mate but i trust your judgment there bro.
I dont see any coolamaster cases but lol

Ok, well if it's just for facebook games then you can scale back on a few parts and save him some dollars.

You could also try this. It's a small form factor case, but for a guy that just plays games on facebook then this could work well. It comes with onboard graphics, however if you want to upgrade at a later point you can just chuck a midrange gfx card in later.
